[Little Tips] Backfoot Impossible – Pressing is the key

The Back Foot Impossible is a trick where you wrap the board around your back foot for a full 360° rotation. The key to this trick lies in how you pop the tail, but factors such as weight distribution and upper body orientation are also crucial for getting that smooth wrap around your back foot. In this breakdown, we will compare it with the Treflip, which shares similar movements.

*Being able to do a Tre Flip or a 360 Pop Shove-it beforehand will make learning this trick much easier.
*Try placing your front foot on the ground and practice the motion of wrapping the board around your back foot to get a feel for the movement.

    STEP BY STEP TIPS

    1. Focus on your back foot stance

The back foot placement is basically the same as in a Treflip. Let your toes hang slightly off the side edge of the tail. Since the front foot is not heavily involved in this trick, simply place it in a position that feels stable and balanced.

    2. Pop the tail and wrap the board vertically

In a Treflip, you use your back foot to spin the board a full 360°. However, the Impossible works differently. Instead of flicking the board away, you press down on the tail and keep applying pressure without lifting it off the ground right away. As you do this, the tail naturally wraps around your back foot — that is when you start guiding the board through the spin. While lifting your back foot upward, make sure to keep the board close and spin it as vertically as possible.

    3. Use your ankle to spin the board

Use your ankle to spin the board, almost like twirling a hula hoop around your foot. You do not need much force — the board will naturally complete the 360° rotation. As you pop the tail, lift your front foot straight up to make space, then catch the board with it as it finishes spinning and prepare to land smoothly.

    4. Body alignment and Balance point

Compared to a Treflip, it is easier to perform this trick with your upper body slightly more closed. If your weight shifts toward your toes, the board will not wrap around your back foot properly, so try to keep your balance point directly above the board. Staying balanced over the deck is key to getting a clean, smooth wrap.
